Professional Biography

Sam Macintosh is a global health strategist with over 20 years of experience working at the intersection of government, philanthropy, industry, and NGO delivery. His work spans HIV/AIDS, neglected tropical diseases, health financing, and market shaping for essential medicines. Across his career, he has helped lead teams that have mobilized more than $600 million for health outcomes in more than 40 countries.

As Vice President at the END Fund, a leading vehicle for collaborative philanthropy focused on neglected tropical diseases, Sam has founded and led the organization's strategic partnerships function and oversees its global advocacy for resource mobilization. As principal liaison to the pharmaceutical industry, he manages the END Fund's relationships with major donor partners including Merck, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, GSK, and Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany — companies whose multi-billion-dollar annual treatment donations the END Fund mobilizes capital to deliver.

Previously, Sam was Executive Director, International Programs at the M·A·C AIDS Fund, the largest philanthropic vehicle of the Estée Lauder Companies. He oversaw a grant portfolio supporting 130 HIV/AIDS service organizations across 50 countries and co-created public-private partnerships that reached over 26 million people affected by HIV/AIDS.

Earlier roles include Chief Development Officer at Grassroot Soccer, a leading sport-for-development organization; Chief Operating Officer at Millennium Promise, a delivery partner to Columbia University's Earth Institute; and Global Operations Manager at the Clinton Health Access Initiative, where he helped establish the organization's health financing division and was seconded to several African Ministries of Health to build operational capacity for drug procurement, supply chain, and health financing optimization.

Sam has advised the World Health Organization, Impact Global Health, Global Citizen, and the We Are Family Foundation, and served as Chair of the Development Committee on the Board of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. He has taught at Hunter and Baruch Colleges at the City University of New York and continues to mentor students at Strathclyde Business School and SOAS, University of London, where he earned his degrees in international and development economics. He lives in Portugal with his wife and children.
